UNP General Secretary pledges support to Sirisena

General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake strongly denied the rumors that he was considering a crossover to the government. He said this during a gathering at Sirikotha.

Speaking to the party members and organizers gathered at the UNP headquarters to welcome the common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena, Attanayake dismissed all media reports that said he was offered Rs. 500 million to join the Government.
He strongly stated that said he will not crossover to the government and no amount of money can buy over his conscience.
Attanayake said the UNP has to ensure the victory of the common opposition candidate and urged the UNP members to back Maithripala Sirisena at the upcoming presidential elections. This meeting was Sirisena's first visit to Sirikotha after the announcement of his being the common candidate.
Addressing the UNP members gathered to welcome the candidate, party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said that a national government will be formed as soon as Maithripala Sirisena wins the Presidential election on 8 January.
