President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the SAARC summit which began commenced in Nepal this morning.

At the summit President Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his views on terrorism by saying

“Terrorism still remains a fundamental security challenge, both regionally and internationally. Sri Lanka cannot remain complacent in maintaining safeguards against possible insurgents. We owe to ourselves and our people to ensure that the radical views of a few and misplaced agenda of some others do not undermine the security and well-being of the large majority of peace-loving people. I think culture has the capacity to bring the regions together in a unique manner. Sri Lanka’s commitment in this area will be further enhanced with the completion of the state-of-the-art SAARC Cultural Centre in the southern region of our country”

The 18th summit was opened by the chair Abudulla Yameen who is the current president of Maldives. This is the 3rd time Nepal will be hosting the summit.
