Gammanpila Crosses Back

Deputy Secretary of Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Udaya Gammanpila announced his decision to support Mahinda Rajapaksa for the upcoming presidential elections just three weeks after crossing over to support the Joint Opposition.

Gammanpila, who resigned from his Western Provincial Council minister post last month in support of the opposition, crossed over, back to the government side yesterday (11) at a meeting help at the SLFP headquarters.

At media briefing today, Gammanpila stated that while the JHU did fight for reform, it was not meant to join with reactionary forces and that the JHU had joined forces which are against the country.

The former Deputy Secretary resigned from his ministerial portfolio on the 18th of November saying that the government would not implement the proposals and constitutional amendments proposed by the party.
