The Chief Justice (CJ), Director General of the Bribery and Corruption Investigations Commission and the Chairperson of the University Grants Commission are being threatened to resign from their posts and these thugs should not be white washed for their crimes, said MP Wimal Weerawansa (pictured below).

Speaking at a National Freedom Front (NFF) press briefing held in Colombo yesterday (22) he stated that the CJ Mohan Peiris (pictured below) was forcefully stopped from being present at courts, several allied lawyers were turned against him and was not allowed to be present during the oath taking ceremony of President Maithripala Sirisena because of the revengeful motivations of the new government officials.

“If there are any allegations against the CJ then these allegations should be brought up at the Parliament and be discussed in order to properly terminate him from his position. But what is happening is different. These state officials’ lives and their families’ lives are being threatened. This is what common criminals do to intimidate people,” said he.

Responding to questions regarding the Chief Justice’s presence at the Temple Trees during wee hours of 09 January, before the Presidential Election results are out, he stated that the CJ is allowed to make an independent decision to go anywhere he wants and it is not barred by any existing constitution or law.

“The former president Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over his power peacefully after consulting the present Prime Minister Ranil Wickramsinghe. Similarly the Chief Justice might have been present at the Temple Trees at that time in order to congratulate the former president and to wish him good luck and in order to motivate him probably. This conspiracy of a military coup was created by the present government to tarnish the former president’s popularity among the public,” said he.

Furthermore he commented that the accusations regarding the CJ’s political relationships are baseless and cannot be proven. According to him, the government made these accusations in their vengeful motivations and now they cannot prove them. If there are any proofs of these claims, a proper report should be introduced to the Parliamentary Selecting Committee and since they do not have any proof, they are not going to put up a report, said he.
