MP Wimal Weerawansa of National Freedom Front (NFF) stated that the new government had proven that it’s false promises about a wonderland during the pre-election period, after the price reduction of petrol, diesel and kerosene prices that were amended last Wednesday (21)
Addressing a media briefing held on Thursday (22), he affirmed that the new government had promised to remove all the taxes related to fuel prices but it only succeeded in reducing the fuel prices. Fuel prices in the World Market have currently gone down exponentially but these aids have not been provided to the public, said he.
“They promised to remove the taxes for fuel prices but now they have only reduced the prices. World Market prices have been at a low level for some time now since last year. But this local reduction does not tally with the World Market Prices and our fuel prices are still high. Why cannot they provide the same prices and aid here locally? We demand the new government to answer these questions,” said he.
He also commented on a statement made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera in his visit to India regarding the issues in the North. “Minister Mangala gave an exclusive interview to several journalists during his visit to India and stated that the new Sri Lankan Government is taking steps to de-militarize the Northern sector of the country.
